Somewhat disappointed While there are some good pointers in this book, most of it is just common sense. Of course cellphones, email, texting, and people in general are distracting and time wasters. I didn't need a book to tell me that. I found the author repeated himself too much but didn't really get down to the nitty gritty: exactly how to fast focus. He talked a lot about time wasters and distractions and ways to overcome them but that just wasn't anything new to me. I guess I was expecting something more from this book. It didn't cost much so I guess it wouldn't hurt to read it but it might leave you wanting more.PRACTICAL This is an awesome book. He says one of his goals is: writing books that help people achieve measurable results in their lives. This book certainly does. Unlike many books it is a quick read that leaves out all the fluff. Gets to the point with practical advice. I look forward to more of his books.Everyone Should Read This! "Fast Focus" is full of great reminders. If you're old like me, there's nothing actually new here, but having all of these neat tricks in one book is great. It allowed me to identify the focus blocks I've had lately. And, thankfully, this book is well-written with a minimum of typos. The author can actually write -- amazing in a Kindle World where every hack seems to think he/she has a decent book inside.I found my focus blocks were unusual and hope by writing this I might help somebody else. For instance, I write using an old-fashioned dictaphone. Yes, really. It's what I used at my first job(s), and it's comfortable and familiar. And I use pen and paper for my to do lists. Again, it's what I've always done. Lately I've forced myself to use Evernote and some of the other new programs and they just didn't "fit." Also, although I've tried for thirty years to work to baroque music, it just peels the enamel off of my teeth. Then I discovered the Game Show Network on TV and as long as I keep it running, on low, in the background, I feel like I'm back where I used to be when I did some of my most successful work -- people chattering, laughing, etc.Also, I used to believe in multitasking, but as the author says, it just doesn't work. Now I devote my time to one thing at a time, although I do often cheat and eat while catching a weather report or I file my nails while listening to my sister drone on over the phone. And time chunking is a given -- it works beautifully. And my cell phone stays zippered in my purse during the day. Always. People who honestly may need to reach me have my land line, and they're the only ones who have that number. I have never (and will never) allow a cell phone to become the huge annoyance I understand it is for too many people. I could just as easily live without one.Yes, this is coming from an old broad, but I've had some terrific successes during my working years, so use what works for you.So read this book, and understand that the idea is to experiment in order to discover what works for you. I appreciate that the author laid things out in a One-Size-Doesn't-Fit-All way, allowing for personalization. "Fast Focus" is a great little book, written in a friendly tone and full of terrific ideas and information.
