Simple, easy, step-by-step phonics learning My son is homeschooled and we struggled with the first grade Horizons Phonics & Reading program for 6 months before I gave up and ordered this. I wish I would have chosen this workbook to begin with. It starts simply, at the very beginning with letters that make consonant sounds and then progresses to the sounds two letters make together, etc. It lays a sure foundation by presenting concepts one at a time and giving 4-8 practice questions to answer. Just enough that a student paying attention grasps the concept.This is the THIRD time I have switched from some fancy, big-name homeschool curriculum to an Evan-Moore product and every single time the protesting and fussing has stopped and my son has gone from zero understanding to mastering the concepts presented. You can do as many pages per day as you like (we typically do one) and it doesn't burn you or your student out. I seriously love these workbooks. This critical material is handled in a way that presents the important foundational information in a way that encourages the student, guiding them step by step to proficiency. The cartoon drawings are engaging (I let the kids color them as long as they are working) and the students move at their own pace. Highly recommended, especially for remedial, ESL or homeschool.
